YouTube Sensation, Greyson Chance, Signs Recording Contract

Following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber, who made is start as a YouTube star, is 12-year-old YouTube phenomenon, Greyson Chance.

Just Jared is reporting that the sixth grader just closed a deal with Interscope Records. At this time, the record label hasn’t confirmed the news. CrazedHits reported “Interscope [chairman] Jimmy Iovine closed the deal before any other label could even step in and meet the kid.”

His YouTube video where he performs his version of the Lady GaGa song, ‘Paparazzi,’ has almost 14 million views, making him the newest Internet sensation. Looks like we have someone that will dethrone Bieber.

Interscope goes Gaga over Greyson Chance?

Over the last several years the internet has been used as an entertainment source for many people around the world. There have been several music acts that have been discovered through sources like Myspace and Youtube. Millions of people visit Youtube everyday for various reasons. Everything from funny bloopers, sports highlights, alien sightings, and music videos. Some of these videos get shared so much and so fast that they are called "viral videos."

The most recent of these viral videos was that of a young man named Greyson Chance. Greyson performed "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga for his 6th grade festival. The video was put on Youtube, and has accumulated over 14 million views in the 2 weeks that it has been on the website.

Greyson appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show on Thursday May 13th, after she saw his video a couple of days prior. According to CrazedHits and JustJared Interscope Records has signed Greyson to their label.

There has been no official statement released by Interscope Records about this deal as of yet.

Lady Gaga surprises Greyson Chance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Greyson Chance is the newest Youtubesuperstar, as his take of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" has already managed over half a million hits online in the span of less than two weeks. Now, the 12-year old Oklahoma native -- who originally performed the song for a church talent show -- is getting his time to shine of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Thursday. Not only that, but Gaga herself actually calls in for a message to the young singer.

According to Us Magazine, the "Poker Face" singer had this to say to Greyson:

"You're so sweet and so talented. I was so excited that you covered 'Paparazzi. Everyone loves you so much...Just keep following your dreams and work really hard and stay away from girls and be focused."

For Greyson, staying away from the girls will probably be the hardest part -- with his free-flowing hair, the kid looks like a younger version of Justin Bieber with an equally strong voice.

Greyson Chance -- Susan Boyle, Justin Bieber, or a flash in the pan?

Are we all appointing Greyson Chance the next big star a little early? At this point a week and a half ago, no one even knew who the 12-year old Oklahoma resident even was. Now, however, we're looking at a kid with millions of hits on Youtube, an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and support from millions of users on Twitter (a new account has popped up proclaiming to be Greyson, but I can't verify that just yet).

So is this kid going to become the next Justin Bieber or Susan Boyle? After all, both of these stars were able to use Youtube as a catapult to million of albums sold (though Susan had some help from "Britain's Got Talent"). However, it might still be a little early for us to put that much pressure on Greyson right now. He has already written some original songs, but is still mostly well-known for his take on a Lady Gaga song. He also is so young that he may need time to develop more as an artist.

Better than Bieber, greater than Gaga, 'Paparazzi' kid latest YouTube sensation

Get ready for GreyMi.

There he is sitting at the piano, in front of all his tween girl schoolmates at his Oklahoma Middle School's Talent night, and he begins a frenzied intro to Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." Sixth grader Greyson Michael Chance then sings. And I mean sings. Bringing new life to the lightweight pop song, his multi-octave vocal would earn him the American Idol title if he were old enough and if smart people were actually voting.

Following in the footsteps of his doppleganger Justin Bieber (he sports the Bieber sideswept hair cut; actually, he captures the entire Bieber look, but better), but did I mention, this kid can sing! There's nothing child-like about his mature-beyond-his-years vocals. The Bieb's fans would be wise to switch their allegiance. For that matter, Gaga's fans would be smart to do the same.

Chance is a prodigy. Watch some of his other videos on his YouTube page. The depth of emotion, lyrical content. music and musicianship is truly impressive.

A fan page has already been devoted to Greyson on Facebook, and Ellen DeGeneres is planning on having him on her show on Thursday, May 13, so expect the million and a half hits he has right now on YouTube to zillion-tuple. Ellen has said that she has never been more excited to have anyone on her show. So be sure to watch, because this kid's life will change before you very eyes.

See, the Internet can provide some good talent every once in a while.

Greyson Chance 'Paparazzi' alert: A teen star is born on the 'Ellen Show' (and YouTube)

Yesterday I gave you a head’s up about Greyson Michael Chance, a 12-year-old musical prodigy from Edmon, Oklahoma, who sang the hell out of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” in a YouTube video that is becoming a viral sensation.

Well, welcome to stage two of his career catapult. Today he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Ellen, who loves discovering and encouraging new talent, was very excited about Chance’s appearance, saying, in advance, that she was more excited about him than any other performance.

As a part of Ellen’s ongoing series “Ellen’s Wonderful Web of Wonderment,” where she introduces new talent from the Interwebs, she was particularly interested in Chance, a talented and precocious sixth grader.

Greyson seemed very excited, but appeared a bit nervous as he repeatedly tossed his head, keeping his side-swept Bieber locks in place. An extremely articulate young boy, he was more mature than his years. He described two songs that he had written, “Stars,” about a woman who dies of cancer, soon to be followed by her husband, and “Broken Hearts,” about just that. Apparently two girls have done him wrong.

Greyson seemed a bit too polished and goody-goody for my taste, and although he was on his first visit to L.A., he seemed slightly show-biz-y. That aside, the tween has massive talent. Watch out Justin Bieber, a kid who looks like you and sings better than you and is probably smarter than you are and is not a Canadian is out for your title.

Chance's videos have attracted millions of visitors, including one who called into the Ellen Show during the young boy's interview: Lady Gaga, herself. When Greyson previously explained why he liked her so much, he was insightful and on point. With her as an idol, it will be interesting to see what direction he takes as he gets older. Gaga was particularly gracious with him and spoke with him with absolutely no affectation.

And then off he was, to the piano, to sing “Paparazzi” live. Belting it out with such power, he gave the song a new life—as a song that can stand on its on, apart from the Gaga experience.

But let's not forget Little Tommy DeMott, who we introduced to you several weeks ago, who did his Gaga best singing "Bad Romance" into a banana, while his father ran around in the background in his underwear. Please, do yourself a favor if you haven't seen it, watch it here.
